Barack Obama recibe el premio Nóbel de la paz, acá agradece con esta carta

Esta mañana, Michelle y yo nos despertamos con una noticia sorprendente y extraordinaria. A las 6 de la mañana nos informaron que se me había otorgado el Premio Nóbel de la Paz del 2009.

Honestamente, no me siento merecedor de estar en compañía de tantas figures transformadoras que han sido honradas con este premio – hombres y mujeres que me han inspirado y que han inspirado a todo el mundo por su coraje en la búsqueda de la paz.

Pero yo también sé que a través de la historia los Premios Nóbel de la Paz no sólo han servido para rendir honor a logros específicos; también han servido como medios para impulsar un conjunto de causas.

Esta es la razón por la cual he dicho que aceptaré este premio como un llamado a la acción, un llamado a todas las naciones y a toda la gente para confrontar los desafíos comunes de este siglo 21. Estos desafíos no serán todos logrados durante mi presidencia, ni siquiera durante el transcurso de mi vida. Pero yo sé que esos desafíos pueden ser logrados en la medida en que se reconozca que ellos no serán el logro de una sola persona ni de un solo país.

Este premio – y el llamado a la acción que lo acompaña – no me pertenece solo a mí o a mi administración; el mismo pertenece a toda la gente que alrededor del mundo ha luchado por la justicia y la paz. Y sobre todo, le pertenece a ustedes, los hombres y mujeres de Estados Unidos que se han atrevido a tener esperanza y que han trabajado tan duramente para hacer nuestro mundo un poco mejor.

Así que hoy nosotros humildemente renovamos el compromiso con la importante tarea que hemos empezado juntos.. Estoy agradecido de que hayan permanecido junto a mí todo este tiempo, y me siento honrado continuando nuestra vital tarea en los años por venir.

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.
